Consultancy appointed to study feasibility of the project

  • Steps afoot to acquire land for dumping yard
  • Unemployed youth to be given training in six trades

    ONGOLE: The Ongole municipality has proposed underground drainage system in the town and appointed a consultancy to study its feasibility and estimate the cost.

    Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy, MP, has promised efforts to get funds from the Urban Development Ministry for any major development scheme and the municipality proposed to take up underground drainage scheme. Andhra Pradesh Urban Slum Program has agreed to meet the cost of the consultancy.

    The consultancy has sent a team to submit a report about feasibility and cost of the scheme.

    Speaking to newspersons here on Saturday, Municipal Chairman Bapatla Hanumantha Rao said that efforts were being made to acquire land for dumping yard and slaughterhouse to further improve sanitation in the town.

    Market complex

    The municipality would soon take over the vegetable market complex constructed by the Agricultural Market Committee at a cost of Rs. 7 crores in Ura tank.

    Municipal Commissioner Challa Anuradha said the municipality would provide training to the unemployed youth in any one of the six trades -- masons, painters, carpenters, rod benders, plumbing and electrician.

    Unemployed youth in the age group of 18-35 are eligible to get the training for three months. The trainees would be paid a stipend of Rs. 600 per month and they would be given tools worth Rs. 2,000 at the end of the training.

    The trained persons would be provided employment for one year.
