CHENNAI: The All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary and Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Jayalalithaa, has condemned the Centre's decision to disinvest 10 per cent of its equity in the National Aluminium Company (NALCO) and the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC). "This move of the Union Government is ominous indeed as it hits at the very root of India's public sector undertakings, hitherto nurtured with great care. This is specially so when the National Common Minimum Programme of the United Progressive Alliance Government, of which the DMK is a constituent, clearly states that profit making public sector companies will not be privatised or disinvested thus violating the clear assurance given to the nation by the UPA," Ms. Jayalalithaa said in a release on Saturday.
