ACB traps fire services department official

Staff Reporter

Superintendent had taken Rs. 500 as bribe from watchman

ANANTAPUR: The Anti Corruption Bureau on Saturday trapped Superintendent in Fire Services Department Mohd. Abdul Rahaman while taking a bribe of Rs. 500 from a watchman of the office, Vasudeva.

A team led by DSP K. Subba Rao and comprising CIs Sivashankaraiah and Chand Basha and SI Sriramulu caught the Superintendent red-handed while accepting the bribe. The ACB officials said the watchman of the office had been requesting the Superintendent for the last six months to rectify his GPF account.

The watchman approached the Superintendent after the Treasury Department asked him to get his GPF account rectified as his share was not credited proportionately.

Cut in `price'

The Superintendent had allegedly demanded Rs. 1,000 initially to rectify the account and upon bargaining he had agreed to do the work for Rs. 500.

The watchman had taken ACB's help to trap the Superintendent.

He was arrested and taken to Hyderabad. He will be produced in the ACB court there on Monday.
