`Students will be exposed to a number of fields'

  • APSCHE chairman says many varsities are keen to offer the course
  • Move in tune with Government's plans on education reforms

STEPPING STONE: APSCHE Chairman K.C. Reddy inaugurating the 5-year integrated master's programme in Dravidian University campus in Kuppam on Saturday.

TIRUPATI: Dravidian University became the youngest university in the State to offer a five-year integrated master's programme on Saturday, when the chairman of Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) K.C.Reddy formally inaugurated the course at its Srinivasavanam premises in Kuppam on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Reddy said that education would reach the downtrodden only when similar institutes of learning were established in backward areas like Kuppam.

He also pointed out that several varsities were coming forward to offer such multi-faceted courses that would expose students to a number of fields. He lauded the Vice-Chancellor, G.Lakshminarayana for making his nine-year old varsity an example for others in the State to emulate.

    Adept in more areas

Hailing the varsity's decision, Secretary (Higher education), Ausutosh Mishra, said it was in tune with the Government's plan to introduce reforms in the education arena.

He said that the five-year master's programme would make students adept in more areas than one, even while focussing on their core subjects.

Mr. Lakshminarayana spoke on the immense job potential of the programme.

The Registrar P.Rajasekhara Reddy welcomed the guests while Dean (Academic affairs), D.Ananda Naidu, proposed a vote of thanks.

Earlier, Mr.Mishra laid the foundation stone for a building on the campus to house the branch of Andhra Bank.
