TIRUMALA: Director-General of Police Swaranjit Sen on Saturday denied reports that appeared in a section of the media that the police nabbed top Maoist leader Ramakrishna. Talking to newsmen here, Mr. Swaranjit Sen said that the reports were "totally false and baseless." He said that it was very disappointing that another top leader Sudhakar gave the police the slip. The police went very close to nabbing Sudhakar but could not succeed in their attempt. The DGP, who reached Tirumala by foot from Chandragiri in the morning as part of his inspection, expressed satisfaction over the security measures atop the temple town. On being informed of the recent incident wherein a devotee took a plunge into the `hundi', he said that such incidents would not pose any threat to the security of the temple. He said that it was unfortunate that some top police officers of the district were facing allegations of involvement in smuggling of sandalwood. If investigations proved their role, they would not spare them, he added. Before leaving, Mr. Sen offered prayers in the temple.
