No identity card, no vote: Collector

`There will be no laxity in implementing code of conduct'


  • Photo ID cards or any of the 15 proofs stipulated by SEC should be shown
  • Candidates barred from using State guesthouses for campaigning
  • 900 additional police personnel deployed for election duty

    NIZAMABAD: District Collector I.S. Sri Naresh said those who did not have electoral photo identity cards (EPIC) would not be allowed to cast votes in the elections to local bodies.

    Voters needed to show either EPIC or any one of the 15 ID proofs mentioned by the State Election Commission. They are passport, driving licence, PAN card, employment card, bank/kisan/post office pass books, students identity cards, pattadar pass books, ration cards, SC/ST/BC certificate, pension documents, freedom fighter ID, weapon licence and Physically Handicapped certification.

    Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he said polling personnel were being trained in the conduct of polls and counting of votes. Counting would be held division-wise at Nizamabad, Bodhan and Kamareddy.

    Mr. Sri Naresh said the administration would not compromise on the election Code of Conduct. Political parties and candidates had been asked to abide by the code strictly. They were barred from using Government guesthouses and offices for their campaign, he said.

    Sensitive villages

    The police had identified 178 sensitive, 141 hypersensitive, 238 extremist-affected and four inaccessible villages where special police parties would be posted. Each hypersensitive village was guarded by one officer and eight constables and each sensitive village by one officer and four men.

    About 900 additional police personnel were being deployed on election duty. That apart, a 3,200-strong force would be put on bandobust duty.

    `Auctioned' post

    The SP said as regards auction of an MPTC post at Anksapur village of Velpur mandal 72 persons were rounded up. The election was countermanded and five cases were booked.

    The Joint Collector, G. Ramnarayana Reddy, the District Revenue Officer, C. Sreeram Reddy and the Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer and Additional Election Officer, A. Satyanarayana were also present.
