YADAGIRIGUTTA (NALGONDA DT.): Gongidi Sunita, Telangana Rashtra Samiti's rebel candidate for Yadagirigutta Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC), is posing a serious threat to the electoral prospects of the party's official nominee K. Manohar Reddy, a close confidant of Alair MLA K. Nagesh. President of Yadagirigutta Mandal Praja Parishad, Ms. Sunita has been in the forefront of all agitations taken up by the party. Besides, she is also involved in various social activities. However, the TRS leadership had to deny her the ZPTC ticket to accommodate the MLA's aide.
No disciplinary action
Though she is fighting the election as an independent, the leadership has not taken any action against the active woman leader, who enjoys the support of a large section of TRS cadres. Voters, especially women, are according rousing reception to Ms. Sunita and are even taking about the "injustice meted out to her by the leadership." "My party leaders KCR and A. Narendra have recognised the services rendered by me and they have tried their level best to give me the ticket. As the prolonged discussions with the MLA have failed to yield any result, I am contesting as an independent," Ms. Sunita told The Hindu on Saturday.
Race against time
As she had to be present at the TRS headquarters to participate in the discussions for three full days, she was left with no time to launch an organised campaign. "Despite paucity of time, I am trying to cover all areas in my constituency," she said . Apart from Mr. Manohar Reddy, K. Mohan Reddy (Telugu Desam), E. Baalesh (BJP) and S. Satti Reddy (Independent) are in the fray. But, the rebel candidate feels that her main rival is the Telugu Desam candidate. "The official TRS candidate is with the BJP before joining the TRS. But, we are with the party all along," she claimed. Despite being denied a ticket, Ms. Sunita's heart goes with the TRS.
