CCTV to monitor Shahabuddin's health condition

Medical team despatched by State Government to Siwan jail to examine the MP

Patna: Amid allegations by Opposition RJD and Congress of neglecting the health problem of Mohd. Shahabuddin MP, the Bihar Government has decided to install close circuit cameras in his cell at Siwan jail to keep an eye on his condition

The CCTV, to be installed soon, will ascertain whether the RJD MP is critically ill as alleged by the Opposition, the State's Home Secretary, Afzal Amanullah, told PTI on Saturday.

There has been a ``lot of noise'' over Shahabuddin's condition and the CCTV will give a ``fair'' idea of that, Mr. Amanullah said.

Meanwhile, the medical team despatched by the State Government on Friday to Siwan to examine Mr. Shahabuddin, who is reportedly suffering from serious spinal problem, has submitted its report to the Home Secretary, Health Secretary Deepak Prasad said without divulging its contents.

Mr. Amanullah, when asked about the recommendations of the medical team, said that he had not gone through the report.

The medical team, according to health department sources, who insisted on anonymity, had maintained that Mr. Shahabuddin's condition was not very serious and that he could be provided treatment at the Siwan jail itself.

``For the moment the team has suggested providing treatment to the MP in the Siwan divisional jail itself. It has said that he be transferred to any hospital in Bihar or outside if his condition worsens,'' they said. The medical team, headed by Director-in-Chief (health) Captain Shyam Narain Singh, included Dr Vijay Prakash (HoD) of medicine department, Patna Medical College and Hospital, Dr Arjun Singh (orthopaedics), Dr Arun Agarwal (neurology) and Dr Anil Pandey (nephrology). -- PTI
