NEW DELHI: A city court on Saturday sent a Delhi Police Sub-Inspector to 14-day judicial custody on charges of taking Rs.25,000 as bribe. After a day of police custodial interrogation, Additional Sessions Judge Sunil Gaur remanded the accused Sub-Inspector Rajender Singh to judicial custody till July 8, accepting the prosecution plea that further investigation in the case was required. Singh, who was posted at police station Sultanpuri in North Delhi, was arrested on Friday while allegedly taking bribe of Rs.25,000 from complainant Veerawati. As per the prosecution, Singh had demanded Rs.50,000, which was later reduced to Rs.25,000, as illegal gratification for not arresting the complainant in a cheating case. Veerawati had purchased a plot through a property dealer Rajesh, which was later found to be belonging to someone else, the prosecution said. A complaint was filed with the police and subsequently her husband was taken into custody. Veerawati's arrest was impending as per the prosecution and the accused was demanding bribe for not arresting her.- PTI
