Seminar on stroke

at Apollo

NEW DELHI: To increase public awareness about strokes, the Stroke Clinic at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital and John Hopkins Hospital, U.S., organised a seminar at Apollo Hospital here on Saturday to coincide with World Stroke Day.

A recent study by the Indian Stroke Association revealed that barely 10 per cent of the patients with acute stroke reach the hospital within the first three hours of the attack. Stroke patients may only suffer from passing symptoms like spells of dizziness, weakness of limbs, visual disturbance, confusion or memory lapse,'' said senior neurologist at Apollo, Dr. P.N. Spotlight on periodontitis risk

NEW DELHI: Eating lots of whole grains may do more than lower the risk of developing diabetes or heart disease. A diet rich in whole grains might also lower the likelihood of developing periodontitis or gum disease.

"A diet that is beneficial for general health is also good for oral health,'' said Heart Care Foundation of India president K.K. Aggarwal over the weekend quoting a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. "Without consuming more calories, three or four servings of whole grains -- equal to three or four slices of whole wheat bread -- may be optimal to reduce periodontitis risk.''
