Give kumki land to farmers: BJP

MANGALORE: The Dakshina Kannada district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has urged the Minister for Revenue Jagadish Shettar to take steps to give ownership rights to farmers cultivating kumki land. The party adopted a resolution to this effect at the district committee meeting held here on Friday, a press release from Vishweshar Bhat B., general secretary, said.

Mr. Bhat said farmers had been granted "kumki right" to revenue land adjoining their patta land in Dakshina Kannada from pre-Independence days. Farmers used this buffer land to meet their daily needs.
