CHENNAI: If for nothing else, the `Cell Show' exhibition at Rani Meyammai Hall is worth checking out just to have a look at the latest mobile phones in the market, including those that most of us will never buy.

Some of the high priced pocket PC phones give a glimpse of what the future holds for us: mega-pixel camera, music and video players, QWERTY-keyboard, wi-fi ready device and office software applications all rolled into one.

There is also a stall that showcases GIS-based (global information system-based) tracking devices that would help provide additional security for your cars, homes and mobile phones.

Pure indulgence

The organisers are showcasing the costliest mobile phone in the global market `Vertu' on Sunday, the last day of the exhibition.

The model costs approximately Rs.2.5 lakh and, needless to say, is pure indulgence.

Of course, other freebies and discounts associated with such exhibitions are being offered at this exhibition too.

V. Raman of Kontak Exhibitions, the organisers, said that all the participating mobile phone dealers had offered a minimum of a three to six per cent discount on all models at the exhibition.

He also said that all the dealers at the exhibition were selling mobile phones at rates lower than the showroom price.

An assembled (read `Made in China') portable audio-video device capable of playing mpeg 4 files in addition to mp3 stood out, especially because it is priced at an affordable Rs.3,000. However, you have to pay extra for the accessories that go with the device, including add-on memory.
