Raichur: Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basavaraj S. Horatti said here on Saturday that the Government had decided to construct 1,000 houses in a few villages for schoolteachers with financial assistance from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO). Addressing presspersons here, he said the Government had decided to build houses for teachers who were serving in villages that were more than 15 km from cities and towns. There was a need to construct about 5,000 houses in rural areas. In the first phase of the project, it had been decided to construct about 1,000 houses by raising a loan of Rs. 350 crore from HUDCO. The Finance Department had given its concurrence, he said.
Reforms
The Minister said the Government had proposed to reform the primary and higher secondary education system from October. The Cabinet's approval had been received. A 50-point programme had been formulated and it would be discussed in the legislature, he added.
