VIJAYAWADA: Students of Andhra Kesari Tanguturi Prakasam (AKTP) Municipal Corporation High School at Satyanarayanapuram were a delighted lot on Saturday, having received notebooks distributed free of cost by Sabari Mokshadayaka Bhajana Mandali (SMBM) charitable trust. The trust distributed eight notebooks each to 100 poor students of the school, while Poranki-based Aatma Deepam charitable trust, another voluntary organisation, distributed uniforms to 10 students of the school.
Annual affair
On the occasion, SMBM charitable trust president V. Radhakrishna Murthy advised the students of the school to excel in their studies and uphold the reputation of their institution. He said the trust would continue to distribute notebooks in the school every year from now on. Headmaster K. Durga Prasad said that the school was offering education in Telugu and English media from sixth standard to SSC. Under `Computer Education in Schools' programme, the State Government had sanctioned a computer laboratory to the school, which was being managed by the NIIT.
Encouraging results
The school was registering good pass percentage in SSC and seventh classes, both in English and Telugu media. In case of SSC Telugu medium students last year, it was 70, while in case of English medium students it was 88 per cent. Ninety-eight per cent of seventh class English medium students passed out and it was 100 per cent in case of Telugu medium students of the same class. Mr. Prasad thanked the philanthropists for coming forward to encourage the students and said that even teaching and non-teaching members were encouraging students by presenting cash prizes. Mr. Prasad felicitated freedom fighter Garimella Venkata Ramana on the occasion. Secretary of the SMBM trust Ch. Jaganmohan Rao, founder of the Aatma Deepam charitable trust J. Sivannarayana and others were present.
