HYDERABAD: ITC Chairman Y.C. Deveshwar has stressed the need for harnessing the huge energy and talent of the youth to continue the high rates of growth witnessed in the country.

While the liberalisation polices have "unwittingly" unleashed the entrepreneurial talent in the country, there is a need to harness it by converting it into ultimate resources - to meet the bigger challenge of sustaining the development, he said.

He was speaking at the 34th annual awards presentation of the Hyderabad Management Association (HMA) here on Saturday.

Appreciating the growth of small and medium enterprises that were becoming the new epicentres of economic activities in the emerging economy, he said there was a need for interplay of vision, values and vitality in these organisations to make them stand apart.

The companies planning their growth ought to take into consideration the 250 million people living below one dollar and go "that extra mile" to create employment for them.

At the same time, economies like India and China had to plan a growth that was different from the developed countries for which "we have to find our own answers."

Earlier, Mr. Deveshwar presented the best manager of the year award to R. Sridharan, COO, L&T Infocity, entrepreneur of the year award to D. Vidyasagar, managing director, SEC Industries Pvt Ltd, small scale entrepreneur of the year to Anand Manne, managing director, Polmon Instruments Pvt Ltd, personnel manager of the year to B.
