BANGALORE: Three men, riding a stolen motorcycle, stabbed a police constable and assaulted another when the two policemen tried to stop them in Kumaraswamy Layout police station limits on Friday. The police said that around 11.30 p.m. two night-beat constables, Kantharaju and Chandrashekar, were patrolling the streets at Yelechenahalli. On noticing three men riding a motorcycle, the constables stopped them. One of them suddenly stabbed Kantharaju in the abdomen with a knife. When Chandrashekar tried to chase them they punched him in the face and ran away, abandoning the motorcycle, the police said. The staff of the Hoysala patrol squad rushed to the spot and shifted the injured constables to a hospital. Kantharaju (28) is stated to be out of danger.
Protest
The death of a pedestrian in a road accident triggered a protest by the public in Peenya on Saturday. The police said that around 1 p.m. a car hit Ravindra (45) while he was crossing the road in 4th Stage, Peenya, close to Peenya village. After Ravindra was killed on the spot, residents of Peenya village blocked the road for some time and staged a demonstration. When Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-West) Ramasubba visited the spot, the protesters submitted him a memorandum demanding better pedestrian facilities in the area.
