Thiruvananthapuram: Mayor C. Jayan Babu on Saturday highlighted the need for special programmes to bring physically challenged persons into the mainstream. He was inaugurating a medical camp for the handicapped, organised by the City Corporation's working group on women and child welfare. The Mayor reminded the public that it was the responsibility of society to ensure the welfare of the physically challenged. He stressed the need for early detection and treatment of disabilities in children. Mr. Babu distributed tricycles, wheelchairs, earphones and spectacles to the needy. Deputy Speaker V. Jayaprakash presided over the inaugural function. Working group chairperson Aisha Baker, chairmen of various standing committees and councillors participated.
