THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Federation of Residents Associations Thiruvananthapuram (FRAT) has welcomed the Budget proposals for capital development projects. Federation president T.K. Bhaskara Panicker and general secretary Paraniyam Devakumar said in a joint statement here on Saturday that the proposals would help the overall development of the capital. Allocation of Rs.1 crores to acquire land for an IIT, proposal to improve amenities at the medical college which has been accorded AIIMS status and development of the Vizhinjam transhipment terminal and construction of court complex are notable proposals. Similarly, budgetary allocations have been made to improve facilities at the University Students Centre, construction of Swaraj Bhavan, revival of Keltron and setting up of a museum at Halcyon Castle, Kovalam. All these proposals will help to develop the capital as a model city, they said.
