Thiruvananthapuram: Fever clinics have been set up in all Government hospitals in the State and medicines and diagnostic kits made available as part of the steps taken by the Health Department to prevent `chicken guinea', a fever spread by mosquitoes. Adequate funds have been made available to the District Medical Officers and they have been instructed of the measures that have to be followed. The Director of Health Services said in a release that no confirmed cases of the decease had been reported so far. Four persons suspected to have contracted the disease were admitted to SAT Hospital and Government Hospital, Parassala, on June 23. The blood samples of these patients had been sent to Institute of Virology, Pune. A high-level team comprising the District Medical Officer and the Deputy Director, Health Services, visited Parassala and adjoining areas. Fogging, spraying and steps to check the breeding of mosquitoes had been intensified on the advice of the team. Public announcements and awareness programmes had been taken up. The Parassala panchayat has provided mosquito nets to those patients under treatment at Government Hospital, Parassala. The department has sought the cooperation of other departments, voluntary organisations, residents associations and the public.
