This Day That Age
Lt. Col. Gamel Abdel Nasser, Egyptian Prime Minister, has been voted Egypt's first President by an overwhelming majority. He was the only candidate for the Presidency. Egyptians at the same time cast their votes in favour of the new Constitution approved last January by the Revolutionary Command Council. The Council, which Lt. Col. Nasser headed, dissolved itself on June 23. It had ruled the country for most of the period since the overthrow of King Farouk, four years ago.
