Staff Reporter
Thiruvananthapuram: Musicians, studio artistes, sound system engineers, music school teachers and lovers of music based in the capital city have joined hands to form a fraternity. Named Trivandrum Music Fraternity, it comprises musicians from the Carnatic and Hindustani schools. Fraternity chief coordinator Ramesh Narayan and chairman K. Sajeev Lal told reporters here that the organisation would strive to take up rehabilitation projects, welfare and insurance schemes for indigent artistes and seek benefits from the Government. As a first gesture, the fraternity has decided to set up a welfare fund for the family of Sachin Kaitharam, a flautist and music director who was recently killed in a road accident. The fraternity will organise a two-day stage show from July 24 to mobilise resources for the fund. The first day's event will be directed by Soorya Krishnamoorthy. The formal inauguration of the fraternity will also take place the same day. The second day's show is to be directed by T.K. Rajeev Kumar. Mr. Narayan said all artistes participating in the show will perform free of cost. The fraternity hopes to mobilise Rs.5 lakhs for the endowment fund by collecting a donation of Rs.100 from the public. The remaining amount will be used to create a separate welfare fund for music artistes who fall ill and the families of musicians who pass away.
