Letters to the Editor
This refers to the report that the Tamil Nadu Government has decided to consider the period of strike by government employees as `on duty'. This will set a bad precedent. It will encourage government staff to strike work more often, maybe for a longer period, and demand that no action be taken against them. Employees go on strike to protest against some policies, or on some demands, knowing well that they would have to give up something. Our politicians are ready to do anything for a few extra votes.
Ashok Viswanath,
* * * The decision will send a wrong signal and encourage indiscipline. The long-term effect of such moves will be disastrous.
R.S. Vasan,
