KURNOOL: Kotla Jayasurya Prakasa Reddy, MP, campaigned for his cousin and ZPTC contestant in Devarakonda Kotla Harichakrapani Reddy in the sensitive Kappatralla on Sunday. The Congress leaders entered the village and canvassed in a peaceful atmosphere for the first time. It was also considered a critical time for TDP strongman Kappatralla Venkatappa Naidu, who is contesting for the ZPTC seat. When Mr. Jayasuryaprakasa Reddy and Mr. Harichakrapani Reddy were in Kappatralla, Mr. Naidu was away at Karivemula and Machapuram meeting his supporters. The opponents of Mr. Naidu, who deserted the village 30 years ago, regrouped under the leadership of Varam Padma and returned to the village a few months ago. Mr. Reddy told villagers that they fielded members of the family at Devanakonda and Krishnagiri mainly to check the alleged atrocities of Mr. Naidu and other TDP leaders. Devanakonda is crucial for the Kotla family if it wanted to have grip over the Dhone constituency as 12 gram panchayats fall under Dhone and eight in Pathikonda constituency. Because of the influence of Mr. Naidu, the TDP secured a majority of 1,500 in Devanakonda villages in the previous Assembly elections.
