BANGALORE: President of Bahujan Samaj Party Mayawati on Sunday gave a call to her party workers to work concertedly to bring it to power at the Centre. Speaking at a conference of the party's district and State-level leaders from the four southern States, Pondicherry and Maharashtra, Ms. Mayawati said the party should be better prepared for the midterm elections which, according to her, was likely as the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre was weak. The instability of the UPA Government, she said, was more to do with the increasing differences between the constituents of the alliance and the Congress over the rise in prices of essential commodities and the issue surrounding the Office of Profit Bill. The UPA constituents feared losing their vote base if they continued their alliance with the Congress, she said. "The Congress-led Government will not complete its full term. We have a feeling that the two issues will lead to the fall of the Government," she said. She said the Congress-led Government had not been able to reach benefits of reservation to Scheduled Castes, Schedule Tribes and the minorities. The same was also true of other parties ruling in different States. "But if our party comes to power at the Centre, we will introduce a law to see that all the States implemented the reservation policy in letter and spirit," she said. Four coordinators appointed by the party's central office will involve themselves in strengthening the party in the southern States.
