TIRUPATI: The Alipiri police on Sunday took four nuns into custody on the charge of indulging in evangelical activities in S.V. Ramnarain Ruia Government Hospital. The nuns reportedly visited the orthopaedic ward of the TTD-funded hospital in the evening, met Kumar hailing from Tiruthani (Tamil Nadu) who was hospitalised after he met with an accident and asked his name and details for saying a `healing prayer' in a local church. When four other patients were contacted in a similar manner, the staff and attendants of the patients asked them to leave the premises. Meanwhile, activists of Hindu Dharma Parirakshana Samithi led by convenor Samanchi Srinivas entered the scene and questioned the nuns. Later, the activists staged a dharna in front of the superintendent's chamber. Basing on separate written complaints filed by the superintendent, the duty doctor and the samithi, Alipiri in-charge Sub-Inspector Ramakrishna Achary arrested the nuns.
