NALGONDA: Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member B.V. Raghavulu has asked voters to teach the Congress a lesson in the panchayat elections for failing to transfer powers and fund for local bodies in the State. Addressing a series of meetings in Nalgonda district as part of the CPI (M)-TDP campaign on Sunday, he said that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy owed an explanation to the public for the Congress `failure' to transfer 29 powers to local bodies. Blaming the Congress for making local bodies as `Utsava Vigrahalu (namesake institutions)', he alleged that neither panchayts nor MPPs had a role in selecting the `Indiramma ideal villages'.
Rousing reception
A large number of CPI (M) and TDP activists, led by former MP Gutta Sukhender Reddy and former MLA Nandhyala Narasimha Reddy accorded rousing reception to Mr. Raghavulu at Chityal. He addressed roadside meetings at Chityal, Narketpally, Nakrekal, Tipparthy, Vemulapally, Miryalaguda and Neredcharla. The CPI (M) State secretary further alleged that the Government had given a word to the World Bank to slash the power subsidy drastically after the elections. "The Government will pull its socks, if you defeat the Congress in this elections," he observed. He appealed to the Election Commission to take effective steps to ensure free and fair elections. "We have already achieved moral victory over the Congress. If the free and fair poll is ensured, we are going to win a good number of seats."
