Anantapur triumphs
Anantapur with seven points bagged the ACA South Zone U-22 inter-district cricket tournament for the Gokaraju Rangaraju Trophy, which concluded at Atmakur (Kurnool) on Sunday. Chittoor finished second with five points. Nellore, Kadapa and Kurnool registered four points each. Chittoor garnered two points by virtue of first innings lead in the drawn encounter against Nellore. The other match between Kadapa and Kurnool was washed out. The scores: Nellore 229 for eight decl. in 64 overs (Khadar Sheriff 110) drew with Chittoor 245 for five in 36 overs (Rakesh 136 n.o).
Cash prize for Sumanth
The Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association presented a cheque for Rs. 10,000 to B. Sumanth who has been selected for the Indian under-19 team to tour England. Collector and president of VDCA Anil Kumar Singhal handed over the cheque to Sumanth at a brief function at Visakhapatnam on Sunday. The VDCA office-bearers were present. Sumanth played for India in the under-15 Asia cup held in Sri Lanka during 2002-03 and led Andhra under-17 team twice.
