VIJAYAWADA: Machilipatnam MP Badiga Ramakrishna on Sunday participated in a whirlwind election campaign in several areas that form part of Vuyyuru, Gudivada, Mudinepalli and Malleswaram Assembly segments.

With just a day left for the campaign to end, Mr. Ramakrishna and several other Congress leaders concentrated on road shows, often swiftly passing through the narrow streets of dalit hamlets in panchayats instead of addressing any street corner public meeting for want of time.

At Vuyyuru, the MP participated in a road show along with local MLA K.P. Saradhi and local ZPTC candidate, waving his hand at the motley mix of curious onlookers and indifferent passers-by.

Enthusiastic cadre

Amidst drumbeats and some noise created by the enthusiastic cadre, the road show tried to catch the attention of voters by appealing to them to "cast two votes on the hand symbol on June 28". The appeal was to cast the votes to elect both ZPTC and MPTC candidates of the Congress.

The MP held discussions with senior Congress leader Pinnamaneni Koteswara Rao at Pamarru and the two participated in a road show in the remote Rimmanapudi hamlet in DP Gudem panchayat, which is part of Pamarru mandal in Gudivada constituency.

Standing in open top vehicles, the leaders appealed to voters to elect Congress candidates for ZPTC and MPTC seats "to strengthen the hands of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in his efforts to usher in all round development of the State."

Mr. Ramakrishna, along with Malleswaram MLA Buragadda Vedavyas, visited Kanchadam, a village in Bantumilli ZPTC, where former chief whip Kagita Venkata Rao is taking on the Congress.

The MP said he was confident that the Congress would win 40 ZPTCs as selection of candidates was done entirely locally.
