Tiwari, Rawat asked to end feud

Dehra Dun: With Assembly elections in Uttaranchal just six months away, serious efforts are afoot to bring about rapprochement between Chief Minister N.D. Tiwari and PCC chief Harish Rawat, who have been at loggerheads for the past four-and-half years.

As the first step, Congress president Sonia Gandhi summoned the two `warring' leaders to New Delhi and asked them to act in cohesion to fight anti-incumbency ahead of the Assembly elections slated to be held early next year.

Congress sources said Mr. Tiwari agreed to lead the party at the hustings provided he got support from the party's State unit. Mr. Tiwari's main complaint was that he never got whole-hearted support from the party. Sensing the mood of the party high command, Mr. Rawat agreed to lend full support to the State Government.

However, party sources said it would be interesting to see in the next few days as to how the two leaders get their acts together.
