Idgah row: plea to recast panel

Staff Correspondent

HUBLI: Several advocates belonging to the Muslim community here have urged the State Government to include president of the Anjuman-e-Islam, Hubli, on the committee, headed by Law Minister Basavaraj Horatti, that has been constituted to find a solution to the Idgah Maidan row.

In a letter to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, copies of which were released to the press, they said that the issue was connected to Anjuman-e-Islam and that it should be properly represented on the committee. They said that according to the bylaws the president should represent the organisation in any matter. The other office-bearers of Anjuman-e-Islam could represent it only when the post of president is vacant.

They pointed out that the former office-bearers of the organisation such as A.M. Hindasgeri, Mohammed Yusuf Savanur and Anwar Mudhol had good knowledge about the issue and they too should be included on the committee.

In the letter they appealed to the Chief Minister to reconstitute the committee. The letter has been signed by 21 advocates, including M.M. Mulla, A.A. Kalebudde, M.A. Nadimulla, A.M. Savanur and M.A. Shivalli.
