Two murdered

Belgaum: A group of people from Nagaral village in Chikkodi taluk and from Chikkodi town allegedly killed two persons over a property dispute on Friday. The police said the accused, Ravsab Honagouda Patil, Yallappa Balagouda Patil, and Ashok Mallappa Haragapur led the group that allegedly took away Peergouda Dharigounda Patil (40) and Hongouda Kadgouda Patil (60) from Sadalga to Chikkodi in a jeep. Later, they were murdered and their bodies dumped in a gorge near Nagral village. The accused and deceased were relatives and had a dispute over a piece of land. — Staff Correspondent

DHARWAD: Karnatak University, Dharwad, has announced the results of M.Sc. Zoology, Statistics, M.A./M.Sc. Anthropology and M.A Criminology fourth semester examinations held in May/June, 2006, Registrar (Evaluation) of the university has said in a press release. — Staff Correspondent

Man arrested

RAICHUR: The Raichur police have arrested Budda Eranna and seized 10 kg chloral hydrate powder from him while he was selling it at Wadlamdddi near here. He has been remanded in judicial custody. The police said that on inquiry, the accused on Friday revealed that he was procuring the chloral hydrate powder from Balunaik of Merched in Andhra Pradesh and selling it to a hotel owner at Harijanwada in the city. The Raichur Rural police have registered cases against the other two accused. — Staff Correspondent

Lorry seized

RAICHUR: The Raichur police seized a lorry, which was transporting about 750 liters of kerosene near Kurdi Cross of Manvi taluk on Friday. The lorry driver and a kerosene dealer are reported to be absconding. The Manvi police have registered a case. — Staff Correspondent

Toddy confiscated

RAICHUR: The Raichur police arrested Anjaneya, Buddanna and Dhulayya and seized 120 litres of toddy from them while they were selling it at Vadavatti near here. They have been remanded in judicial custody. Another two accused, Thimmangouda and Pampanna are to be absconding. — Staff Correspondent

University of Mysore invites applications

MYSORE: The Fine Arts College, University of Mysore, has invited applications for Bachelor of Performing Arts (BPA) course for the year 2006-07. According to a press statement, the course includes singing, veena, flute, violin and mrudunga recital, besides dance, theatre and art. The last date for submitting applications without fine is July 3. With a fine of Rs. 300, last date is July 11.

Short-term computer courses

MYSORE: The University Computer Centre, Mysore University, will conduct short-term courses in computers for engineering students and the general public from June 28. According to a press statement, the short-term courses include Desk Top Publication (DTP) for eight weeks, C Programming for four weeks, E-craft for six weeks, besides short-term courses in Linux and Unix. Residents demand stops by city buses

MYSORE: Over 100 residents of Hebbal I Stage in the city blocked traffic at Made Gowda Circle on CITB Road in the city on Saturday demanding stops by city buses. Protesters were seeking stops by city buses plying on the route at Abhishek Circle and CITB community hall.

The police arrived at the spot and summoned the KSRTC depot manager Vasu. The protestors relented after Mr. Vasu promised to take steps to meet the commuters' demands. — Staff Correspondent

13 officials placed under suspension

MYSORE: Thirteen officials working at the Block Resource Centre at K R Nagar under the Sarva Shikshana Abhiyan scheme have been placed under suspension on charges of misappropriation of funds.

Chief executive officer of K R Nagar Taluk Panchayat, Channappa Gowda, passed an order to this effect. The suspended officials include the co-ordination officer of the Block Resource Centre and a teacher. — Staff Correspondent

Power shutdown in parts of Hubli

HUBLI: Owing to work on charging the underground power cable network, power supply in parts of Hubli will be disrupted on Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The areas to be affected are P.B. Road, Myadar Oni, Hugar Oni, Gardenpet, Veterinary Hospital, Indira Nagar, Desai Oni, Islampur Road, Bankapur Chowk and surrounding areas. — Staff Correspondent

Veerashaiva leaders in Congress sore

Bangalore: A group of Veerashaiva leaders in the Congress has complained of being prevented from meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the Raj Bhavan here on Saturday.

It has blamed certain leaders for the incident and pointed out that some junior party functionaries were instead allowed to meet Dr. Singh. At a meeting held later in the day, it was decided to meet the Prime Minister in New Delhi next week. They wanted to meet Dr. Singh to convey their feeling that they were being neglected in the party. Those who attended the meeting were the former KPCC president V.S. Koujalgi, G.S. Basavaraju, former MP, Rani Satish, legislators V. Somanna, A.B. Patil, S.S. Patil and Nanjayyanamath, P.M. Ashok and others. — Special Correspondent

Coconut trees uprooted

Udupi: As many as nine coconut trees were uprooted and washed into the sea due to sea erosion

in Udupi district on Sunday.

According to Udupi tahsildar K. Muralidhar, the incident occurred at Gujjarbettu village. There has been sea erosion near Raghavendra Bhajana Mandira and a masjid at Gujjarbettu, and at Mattukopla in Mattu village, Nadipatna near Padubidri and at Uliyaragoli Fishing Yard.

In the last 24 hours ending at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Udupi district received 94.43 mm. of rainfall. — Staff Correspondent

Mass raid

Bangalore: The Vigilance wing of the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) conducted a mass raid on June 22 and 23 and booked 108 cases of power theft at Hiriyur taluk and Challakere taluk in Chitradurga district.
