Rs.4.87-crore aid for dairy development

`Work on the proposed modern dairy unit at Tholoozhom on'

PATHANAMTHITTA: The Union Government has sanctioned Rs.4.87 crores for dairy development in Pathanamthitta district, Thiruvananthapuram Regional Co-operative Milk Producers' Union (Milma) director M.B. Sathyan has said.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, Mr. Sathyan said Central assistance to the tune of Rs.2.82 crores had been sanctioned for the proposed intensive dairy development programme in the district.

The Centre had also cleared Rs.2.05 crores for the proposed `Clean Milk Production' programme, he said.

Mr. Sathyan said Milma procured 23,000 litres of milk through 188 cooperative societies in the district on a daily basis.

He said work on the proposed 60,000-litre capacity modern dairy unit at Tholoozhom, near here, was progressing at a fast pace.

The dairy unit will be commissioned by November 2008, he added.
