KOLLAM: In a drive against drunken driving, the police seized the licences of 51 persons on Saturday night. These will be forwarded to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) with a recommendation for their suspension. The drive was held between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. The police said most of those caught for drunken driving were riding two-wheelers. Autorickshaw drivers and others driving cars were also caught. The drive has been initiated following reports that the incidence of drunken driving was on the rise in Kollam city and that drunken driving was responsible for many of the road accidents. During a similar operation on June 18, 48 persons were caught by the police. Their licenses were also sent to the RTO with a recommendation for their suspension. Kollam Dy. SP T. Reghunathan Nair said the drive would continue.
