CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday assured the farmers that they would get adequate electricity supply for their irrigation needs during the ongoing paddy season. Addressing a public meeting at Samalakha in Panipat district, he said that electricity would be purchased even from other States at any cost so that the consumers in Haryana did not suffer. He claimed that the power generation would increase to 9,000 MW in the next three years from the present 4,000 MW. Thereafter, power would be available for 20 to 22 hours in rural areas. A new 220 KV substation would be set up at Samalkha and its construction would commence next month. Another substation would be set up at village Chajpur. He added that Reliance Industries, which was setting up a special economic zone in the State, would also set up a 2,000 MW power plant. Mr.Hooda said that steps were being taken to ensure equitable distribution of water. The Rs. 270 crore Dadupur-Nalvi canal would benefit farmers in the areas of Kurukshetra, Ambala and Yamunanagar districts. Similarly, the Hansi-Bhutana link canal project would benefit the people in Southern Haryana. He reiterated the commitment of his regime not to let Haryana become a shelter for criminals. While referring to the police recruitment, he said that those found giving or accepting bribe would be dealt with sternly. Accepting the demands put up by the local MLA, Bharat Singh Chokhar, Mr. Hooda said that the work to construct a mini-secretariat at Samalkha would commence in the next two months. .
