Demand for committee to address pension problems
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI:
Members of the Tamil Nadu Senior Category Temple Employees' Association demanded a committee be formed to address pension problems.
Excluded
At a meeting here on Sunday, association state president M. Ramakrishnan said about 2,000 employees in the senior category in temples would be excluded from receiving pension under the Employees' Provident Fund scheme (EPF) implemented recently as they had less than 10 years to retire.
The members wanted a committee comprising EPF scheme officials, temple officials and employees to solve the problem.
Mr. Ramakrishnan demanded 50 per cent of dearness allowance to be added to the basic pay as given to government employees.
Resolutions
Some resolutions were the demand for government employee status to senior category temple staff and their inclusion in the family pension scheme.
About 500 members participated and elected P. Nallathambi as state secretary, Chidambaranadan as treasurer and A. Mohan as headquarters secretary apart from 12 vice-presidents.
The association, started in 1976, has about 5,500 employees across the State.
