VIJAYAWADA: The residents of dalit colony Uppuluru village of Kankipadu Assembly segment had no less a person than Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy addressing them as part of the Congress party's campaign for June 28 panchayat raj election. But the address was not in person but through local MP Lagadapati Rajagopal's mobile phone. In the midst of hectic election campaign, the MP received a call from Dr. Reddy, who sought feedback about the party's prospects in the elections and the prevailing mood among people.
Speakerphone
In response to a request made by the MP, Dr. Reddy agreed to address the local people. Mr. Rajagopal's mobile phone, which has the facility of a speakerphone, was kept in front of the public address system, and the Chief Minister promptly delivered a brief speech. Dr. Reddy asked people to vote for Congress candidates for Kankipadu ZPTC Koneru Dhatri Devi and MPTC candidates Saphalam Manthuri and Anne Rani, in view of several development works taken up by the Congress Government during last two years. The Chief Minister later spoke to local Congress leaders Anne Padmanabha Rao and Madu Srihari Rani about party prospects in elections.
