UNIQUE CONCEPT: A cargo autorickshaw taking part in `The great ape auto challenge' at the open air auditorium in Vanasthalipuram on Sunday.
HYDERABAD: It was a unique race, a race for the three-wheeler load carrier autorickshaws. Though it was not on a par with the Formula One track, the conditions were good enough to judge the driving skills of autorickshaw drivers. With an objective of testing the drivers' ability and providing entertainment for them, Piaggio vehicles under the aegis of Gulf Oil and Heritage Car Club of Andhra Pradesh organised `The great ape auto challenge' at the open air auditorium in Vanasthalipuram on Sunday. As many as 80 autorickshaws took part in the competition that was conducted in two phases. Managing Director of Ramcor Marketing Private Limited, authorised dealer for Piaggio vehicles, K. Raghunandan Reddy said the basic idea was to judge driver skills, besides guiding them to follow the safety concerns. "Enthused by the response we are planning to organise competitions at Mehdipatnam and Secunderabad in near future," Mr. Reddy said. Mohd. Yousuf of Malakpet was awarded the first prize of Rs. 2,001 along with a memento.
