Rehabilitation for alcoholics

CHENNAI: Wisdom Medical Research Foundation has formed a team to rehabilitate alcoholics and drug addicts through house visits and phone counselling. The team headed by psychologist Joshy George consists of staff and volunteers working for eradication of alcohol and drug addiction. For details, contact 2496 4919 or 4404.

Bank's noble gesture

The State Bank of India donated blackboards and sewing machines worth Rs. 3 lakh to Olcott Memorial High School and Social Welfare Centre under Theosophical Society, Adyar.

Ram Krishna Garg, general manager (Network1) of the SBI handed over the articles to Olcott Memorial High School on Saturday as part of the SBI's Community Services Banking.

Health camp

Around 290 persons were screened at a health camp organised by Hindu Mission Hospital at Appoor near Singaperumal Koil on Sunday. A team of seven doctors treated the patients for specialties including dental, eye, ENT and paediatrics. The team referred 17 persons for eye related surgeries and three for general surgeries.

Deposit Utsav

Andhra Bank's Chennai main branch conducted road show and mass contact programme on Friday as part of `Deposit Utsav' till July 11. The programme was inaugurated by Raju Arumugam, deputy general manager, Shipping Corporation of India.

Spoken Sanskrit

A ten-day spoken Sanskrit camp is being held from Monday by the Samskrita Bharati at the Roots Montessori School, Plot No. 56, III East Street, Kamaraj Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai-41 from 3 to 5 p.m.

Fashion design course

Trust helps students

Sri Vidyasagar Trust will award 50 scholarships worth Rs. 5,000 each to meritorious students from economically backward families studying in recognised polytechnics in the State. Applications forms could be obtained by sending a stamped self-addressed long envelope before July 15 by ordinary post to the Trust office at B-1, Narumukai Apts., Brindavan Nagar Extension, Adambakkam, Chennai-88.

Grant to college project

The Department of Eelctronics and Communication Engineering of Rajalakshmi Engineering college, Thandalam has been granted Rs. 8 lakh for the project on automation of super plastic forming using virtual instrumentation.

The grant was given by All-India Council for Technical Education.

The project is claimed to be a cost-effective method for using super plastic during moulding with uniform thickness.
