Novel initiative to help deprived children

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Reforming the society is not a novel idea. But there could be novel ways to execute the idea. A group of youngsters has embarked on a new method to serve the society. The educated youth have formed a voluntary organisation for the purpose. Called `Make a difference,' the organisation strives for spreading the message of education among the orphaned children.

The group consists of about 30 members, but is set to grow, says K.K. Kavin, a member of the group.

Having studied at IIM, Lucknow, he wants to extend the benefits he had derived from his education to the orphans. It was a visit to a poor home in Ernakulam that prompted him to take initiative in the present venture.

Despite being intelligent, few among the orphans reach higher institutions of learning, he points out. The thrust of the new group's effort is to link these unfortunate children to those who are ready to educate them. The youth act as coordinators and arrange contact classes at convenient timings.
