BANGALORE: The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike's (BMP) fogging operations are being done as per the guidelines of the National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme and they are carried out only in mosquito-infested areas and larval breeding habitats. Responding to a story that appeared in these columns on Friday, BMP Deputy Commissioner (Health) Manu Baligar has said that fogging is done only during the outbreak of mosquito-borne diseases and in places where required. "Fogging is done to control adult mosquitoes temporarily and it is not a permanent solution for mosquito menace. We urge the citizens to actively participate in this drive by not allowing water to stagnate for more than a week," a press release said. Pointing out that the chemical used for spraying has to be diluted with water as per the specifications, the press release said that spraying is done on a weekly basis using hand compression sprayers.
