Illegal structures demolished

45 semi-permanent and permanent structures were brought down in Nagarabhavi



RAZED: An earthmover demolishing an unauthorised structure in Bangalore on Sunday.

BANGALORE: In an early morning demolition drive on Sunday, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) Task Force struck down about 45 semi-permanent and permanent structures that had come up unauthorisedly on BDA land on survey number 102 of Nagarabhavi village, adjacent to the Outer Ring Road at Nagarabhavi Layout 1st Stage. The property was estimated at Rs. 16 crore.

The demolition operation was conducted jointly by the BDA Task Force, led by Superintendent Revanna, and the Police Department, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Sharat Chandra.

Among the demolished structures were five RCC buildings.

The operation was carried out on the directions of a Division Bench of the Karnataka High Court on a writ petition.

Those living in the houses had been served eviction notices and many of them had vacated voluntarily. Earthmovers were used to demolish the structures.
