NEW DELHI:
The intermittent showers in May and June this summer might have not allowed temperatures to soar, but senior Health Department officials
During their field surveys during the past one month, the Health Department teams have found high index of mosquito breeding across the Capital, particularly in South, Central, Rohini and Narela zones, setting the alarm bells ringing.
As a result, they have already sounded a dengue alert in several areas after high index of aedes mosquito breeding was found in many schools, office and commercial complexes.
"This year the weather has been suitable for mosquito breeding. Apart from a week in May, mercury has hovered around 40 degrees Celsius, thanks to the intermittent showers. Moisture in the atmosphere due to rain and low temperature this time round has resulted in ideal conditions for high mosquito breeding. Another cause for worry is stagnant water at several places due to rains that helps mosquito breeding," informed a senior Health Department official.
"The breeding index should be zero, but this time it is between 5 to 10 per cent which is an alarming situation," the official said
