dated June 27, 1956: Talks postponed

The White House announced on June 25 that Prime Minister Nehru's visit to Washington on July 7 for talks with President Eisenhower has been postponed for the present in view of the latter's health. In a telegram to Mr. Nehru, Mr. Eisenhower has expressed the hope that he will still come to Washington for talks at some later date. Mr. Nehru had earlier cabled the President expressing concern over his health and suggesting, as the proposed talks were likely to prove too much of a strain to the President during his convalescence, they may be postponed. Mr. Eisenhower appreciated this gesture and the talks were postponed indefinitely.
