Police help avert row between Minister, MLA
K. Balchand
PATNA:
The Chapra police on Monday averted a standoff between a Minister and an MLA of the ruling coalition from snowballing into a controversy, in their bid to control the Zilla Parishad. Minister for Sports Janardan Singh Sigriwal and JD(U) MLA Ram Pravesh Rai publicly entered into an argument and almost came to blows before the police stepped in and took both of them to the police station.
It was all about garnering the support of one of the members of the Zilla Parishad to have their own candidate elected as the head in the election scheduled for June 30. The Minister reportedly phoned the Chief Minister and demanded the removal of the Chapra Superintendent of Police.
