HUBLI: All India Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO) has urged the State Government to take steps to make Karnataka "lottery-free State". AIDYO State unit president B.R. Manjunath and State secretary Ramanjanappa Aldalli on Monday urged the State Government to ban all lotteries in the State. About recent judgement of the Karnataka High Court, which termed the State Government's decision to ban online lottery as illegal based on technical grounds, they said the High Court had observed that if at all the State wanted to ban lotteries it should do so with respect to all kinds of lottery. Mr. Manjunath said although the State Government had said that it would question the decision through a revision petition, experience showed that the move would lead to loss of time. The menace of online lottery would reappear, he said. Instead, the State Government should take a pro-people stance of banning all lotteries. The Janata Dal (Secular) (JD-S) had in its manifesto stated that it would ban online lottery completely and its coalition partner Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was in favour of banning online lottery.
Rally
To press for the demand, the organisation along with other like-minded organisations would hold a rally in Bangalore on July 13. Along with members of these organisations, thousands of women, youths and students would be taking part in the protest rally, he said.
