Corrections and clarifications

In "Nehru in London" ("Variety — This Day That Age from the pages of

The Hindu dated June 24, 1956"; June 24, 2006), the sentence was "Mr. Nehru, who travelled in a Viscount airliner of the IAF, was accompanied by his daughter Mrs. Indira Gandhi, and his two grandsons, Rajiv and Sanjiv". A reader points out that it should have been "Sanjay" and not "Sanjiv".

In "Barnala sworn in [Tamil Nadu] Governor for another term" (Tamil Nadu, June 21, 2006, page 4), a reader says that a detail left out of this report was that Surjit Singh Barnala was a cabinet minister at the Centre in the Morarji Desai ministry in 1977 as a nominee of the Akali Dal. Agriculture, Food, Irrigation and Rural Development were his portfolios.

A few readers wondered why there were two news items in the June 17, 2006 edition, with Bangalore and Chennai datelines, on Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy's reactions to the nomination of Shashi Tharoor for the post of United Nations Secretary General ("Subramanian Swamy opposes Tharoor's nomination" and "Reconsider decision on Shashi Tharoor, says Swamy"). Dr. Swamy's statements are issued from Chennai and also released at Delhi, Bangalore and Madurai. The usual practice is for news reports to be from Chennai only. While the Chennai statement went on the national pages, because of an error at Bangalore and oversight in Chennai, the same news item appeared on the "From the South" page in some editions.

It is the policy of The Hindu to correct significant errors as soon as possible. Please specify the edition (place of publication), date and page.
