Emergency: Swamy for reuniting parties

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on Monday called for the reunification of all the parties that were together in fighting the Emergency.

In a statement marking the 31st anniversary of the Emergency, he said remembering the Emergency was essential for the nurturing of democracy in India. The trend towards democracy the world over began the day the Emergency was defeated by Jayaprakash Narayan. The masses also revolted through the ballot box.

He alleged that the authoritarian mentality still lingered in the Congress.
