NEW DELHI: P. Hari Krishna drew with the world's youngest chess Grandmaster Sergei Karjakin in the eighth round of the Aerosvit 2006 International Grandmasters chess tournament in Foros, Ukraine, on Sunday. The 28-move draw in Sicilian Defence came after the repetition of moves. It may be recalled that Hari had lost to Karjakin last month in the Turin Chess Olympiad in the crucial India-Ukraine clash. The two players, with three points, now share the penultimate spot ahead of top seed Ruslan Ponomariov in the 12-player field. Ukraine's Vassily Ivanchuk (5.5 points) closed in on leader Sergei Rublevsky (6) after beating third-placed Vioral Bologan of Moldova. The results (eighth round): Liviy-Dieter Nisipeanu (Rom, 3.5) bt Alexander Grischuk (Rus, 4); Andrei Volokitin (Ukr, 3.5) lost to Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukr, 5.5); Vioral Bologan (Mol, 5) drew with Alexander Areshchenko (Ukr, 3.5); Sergei Rublevsky (Rus, 6) drew with Alexei Shirov (Esp, 4); Ruslan Ponomariov (Ukr, 2.5) lost to Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Aze, 4); P. Hari Krishna (Ind, 3) drew with Sergei Karjakin (Ukr, 3). Ninth round pairings: Mamedyarov-Nisipeanu; Grischuk-Volokitin; Ivanchuk-Bologan; Areshchenko-Rublevsky; Shirov-Hari; Karjakin-Ponomariov.
