Bangalore: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Monday announced that Rs. 10 crore would be provided for construction at Maharani's College, Bangalore. A sum of Rs. 6 crore would be granted to R.C. College here for a similar project, he said. Speaking after an inspection of a site for a proposed building at Maharani's College, he said the Government would try to provide facilities required by government colleges so that they could increase the intake of students. "Students from economically backward classes cannot afford education at private colleges," he added.
Building plan
Maharani's College plans to construct a building for Commerce studies, for which 200 applications have been received. The building now being used can accommodate only 200 students. Higher Education Minister D.H. Shankaramurthy asked officials to take up construction of 20 classrooms at Maharani's College simultaneously as funds were available. He said expansion of the college building had to be planned keeping in view the likely increase in the intake of students in the coming years. Students need not be denied admission on account of lack of infrastructure, he added. Public Works Minister H.D. Revanna and officials of the Public Works Department were present.
