Additional forces for Medak

Sangareddy: In addition to the civil, AR police and APSP the Medak district has buttressed its force by police from neighbouring Karnataka and Maharashtra for the panchayat elections slated on Wednesday. According to a press release here, additional men from the CRPF, CISF, BSF, Special police from Mummunur, Beechpalli, Dichpalli, Yusufguda and Kondapur have reached the Medak district headquarters and then been deployed in different places. Greyhounds have been dispatched to the naxal-affected areas. - Staff Reporter

TDP activists stage rasta roko

Sangareddy: TDP activists led by former minister T.Srinivasa Yadav organized a Rasta Roko on National Highway seven near Toopran protesting alleged highhanded behaviour of the police. The Toopran police have objected to the number of cars in the convoy that followed the TDP leader. The police argued that only two vehicles could be permitted in the convoy while the TDP cadre alleged that the police intentionally obstructing the peaceful campaign of their party. - Staff Reporter

One murdered

MAHABUBNAGAR: In a broad daylight attack one Boya Neeli Krsinaiah (35) was brutally murdered with hunting sickles and other weapons at Elkur village in Maldakal mandal on Monday. Land dispute between the close relatives was said to be the reason behind the killing of Krishnaiah. Gadwal DSP Shyam Sunder, Circle Inspector Srinivas Rao rushed to the village. - Staff Reporter

Sales centres at 71 wine shops

CHITTOOR: The APBCL will set up sales centres at 71 wine shops in the district where tenders are not received from people, says Nageswara Rao, Deputy Commissioner Excise. Talking to media on Monday he said that in coordination with the police department officers the excise department offices will conduct raids to prevent the flow of illicit liquor. In all, 32 persons were arrested and cases on 162 persons have been booked who violated the rules. The excise officials had been conducting raids in 40 villages covering 10 mandals everyday. -Correspondent

Naidu criticised

TIRUPATI: The Convenor of the BC's Cell, APCC, Inukonda Subramanyam has criticised that the TDP president, Chandrababu Naidu who did precious little for the welfare of the BCs was now only trying to shed crocodile tears for their cause. It is strange that Naidu who cut down the budget allocations for the BCs welfare systematically since 1999 should now try to cry wolf against the Congress.-Special Correspondent

Lok Adalat

MADANAPALLE: In the Lok Adalat conducted on June 24 under the supervision of Legal Services Association chairman and II district additional judge P. Ramesh Babu, 21 cases were settled down (Civil 1, accident cases 3, 17 criminal cases). The victims had to set Rs. 12,06,000 as compensation as was the order of the Lok Adalat. Judges Suryanarayana Gowdu, Raja Venkatadri, Lok Adalat conciliators, Y. V. Sesha Reddy and P. Ghyagamurthy Sarma participated. -Correspondent

Naxals trigger landmine blasts

KHAMMAM: Naxalites triggered two landmine blasts near a culvert on the Jodichilakalavagu stream in Charla mandal late on Sunday night. The blasts formed two craters in the place but the culvert was said to be intact. - Staff Reporter

TDP candidate attacked

KHAMMAM: Modugu Krishnaprasad Naik, Telugu Desam candidate for Kamepalli ZPTC, was injured as some supporters of the Congress hurled stones on him during his campaign in Govindrala village on Monday. Two motorcycles of his followers were also damaged. Tension gripped the village following the incident. - Staff Reporter

CPI(ML) New Democracy chief held

KHAMMAM: CPI (ML) New Democracy leader and its Yellendu division secretary Rayala Chandrasekhar was arrested by the police in Bayyaram on Monday. The underground activist of the party was camping in the village as the party ZPTC candidate Ramakrishna campaigned door to door. - Staff Reporter

Mala Mahanadu to back Congress

HYDERABAD: Mala Mahanadu, headed by J. Prabhakara Rao, has decided to support the Congress in the panchayat raj elections after a recent meeting of the executive on several issues and holding discussions with Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. Mr. Rao said in a statement on Monday that Dr. Reddy had assured the organisation he was not against the Supreme Court ruling on SC categorisation and the proposed National Study Team. - Special Correspondent

EL encashment allowed

HYDERABAD: The Government has issued orders permitting its employees and teachers to avail themselves of leave encashment facility for this year. A press release by the Andhra Pradesh Teachers' Federation here on Monday said those who did not opt for earned leave last year have to give up 30 days now and avail the facility. - Special Correspondent

UBS official calls on Chief Minister HYDERABAD: Clive Standish, Chief Financial Officer, UBS, a leading international financial institution based in Switzerland, called on Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy here on Monday. UBS set up its campus on 11.6 acre piece of land allotted by the Government at Nanakramguda with an investment of Rs. 50 crores and opened its new premises on Monday. It employees 250 at present and intends to ramp up the India operations to 3,000 by 2007. - Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Admissions into the Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM) course offered by Dr. B.R. 419 vacancies for BSF constable posts

HYDERABAD: Station Commandant's Office of the Border Security Force, Bangalore has notified 419 vacancies for the post of constables in Andhra Pradesh. The vacancies exist in Warangal, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Khammam, Medak, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Mahabubnagar, Guntur, Prakasam, Anantapur, Kurnool, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari and Srikakulam districts. Applications in the prescribed format, either typewritten or neatly handwritten on plain paper, should be sent to DIG & Commandant, Subsidiary Training Centre, BSF, Yellahanka, Bangalore - 560063. - Special Correspondent

Old woman killed in house collapse

Kakinada: An old woman Vakacherla Droupadi (75) was killed when the old house she was living collapsed bringing her under the debris in Mandapativari Veedhi under three town police station limits in the city here on Monday. - Correspondent
